Custom ringtones on Nokia N900
The two most common complaints about Nokia’s N900 phone / internet device seem to be the inability to set custom ringtones for different persons and not being able to group contacts into groups. At least the other of these problems seems to have been solved by Marco Barisione with his “Ringtoned” software. It adds an option into the address book to set a custom ringtone for each person in your phone book. The addresses the complaint about custom ringtones in quite an elegant way.
As can be seen from the otherwise Finnish translated screenshot, the software does not yet support translation into languages other than english, but that is a minor squabble.
Addenum, 15.08.2010 I ran into some problems with Ringtoned that were also discussed in the Ringtoned home page. I started to notice a delay between the call and my ringtone ringing. In one particular case, I noticed that my N900 lit up, but the ringtone and caller screen only appeared after several seconds. To me that is an unacceptable delay and I’ve uninstalled the app, but will continue to follow it’s development to see, if the performance issues can be improved upon
